Dependent journey
Family reunification, dependent permits and co-insured healthcare.
You are joining a family member who already lives in Luxembourg. Family reunification, your own residence permit and being co-insured on the CNS are the steps that matter.
Documents to prepare
- Marriage or birth certificate with apostille
- Sponsor's residence permit and payslips
- Proof of suitable accommodation
- Passport photos for each family member
Your steps, in order
Step 1
Check the sponsor's eligibility
The family member in Luxembourg generally needs a valid permit, stable income and accommodation large enough for the family.
Step 2
File the family reunification request
Send the authorisation-to-stay request for each dependent with apostilled civil-status documents and translations.
Step 3
Collect the visa and arrive
With the authorisation, apply for the visa D in India, then travel.
Step 4
Declare arrival at the commune
Register every family member's address within 3 working days.
Step 5
Get co-insured on the CNS
Dependents are usually co-insured under the working family member — file the co-insurance form with the CNS.
Step 6
School and childcare
Contact the commune's school service to enrol children and ask about welcome classes for newcomers.
Good to know
- Apostille and translate Indian marriage and birth certificates before leaving India.
- A spouse's right to work depends on the permit type — check it before job hunting.
