Employee journey

Work authorisation, commune registration, tax card and CNS.

You have a Luxembourg job offer. Your path runs through the work authorisation, arrival registration, social security and your tax card — in that order.

Documents to prepare

  • Signed employment contract
  • Temporary authorisation to stay
  • Diplomas (translated if requested)
  • Rental agreement or proof of address

Your steps, in order

  1. Step 1

Sign the contract and file the authorisation to stay

Your employer declares the vacancy; you apply to the Immigration Directorate for the salaried-worker authorisation before travelling.

  2. Step 2

Obtain the visa D and arrive

With the authorisation, get the long-stay visa at the embassy in India, then travel.

  3. Step 3

Declare your arrival at the commune

Within 3 working days, register your address with your passport, visa and lease.

  4. Step 4

    Social security via your employer

Your employer files the CNS declaration; your social security number arrives by post.

  5. Step 5

    Request your tax card

Once you have the social security number, request the tax card so your salary is taxed in the right class.

  6. Step 6

    Residence permit and MyGuichet

Complete the medical check, file the permit application, and activate MyGuichet.lu for online formalities.

Good to know

  • Keep your first payslip — banks and landlords ask for it constantly.
  • Apply for permit renewal at least 2 months before it expires.
