Student journey

University enrolment, student visa, housing and student healthcare.

You are coming to study in Luxembourg. Focus on your enrolment letter, the student authorisation to stay, campus or shared housing, and health cover — everything else can wait.

Documents to prepare

  • University admission / enrolment letter
  • Proof of sufficient financial means
  • Passport valid for your whole stay
  • Accommodation proof (campus or private lease)

Your steps, in order

  1. Step 1

    Get your enrolment confirmed

Accept your place and keep the official admission letter — every later step asks for it.

  2. Step 2

Apply for the student authorisation to stay

File the temporary authorisation to stay from India before travelling, then apply for the student visa D at the embassy.

  3. Step 3

    Secure student housing

Apply early for university residences; otherwise plan for a shared flat (colocation) and keep the lease for your commune registration.

  4. Step 4

    Register at your commune

Within 3 working days of arrival, declare your address with your passport, visa and lease.

  5. Step 5

    Arrange student health cover

Students under 30 without a job can register with the CNS as a student; keep your enrolment certificate handy.

  6. Step 6

Apply for your residence permit card

Do the medical check, then file the student residence-permit application and collect the card.

Good to know

  • A small student job (up to 15 hours/week during term) is allowed — check the conditions before signing.
  • Open a Luxembourg bank account early: scholarships and rent payments need an IBAN.
