Step-by-step process

Secure admission first
Apply to the University of Luxembourg or another accredited institution. Bachelor programmes often need French and German; most master's programmes are taught in English. Deadlines usually fall between January and April for the September intake.

Prove your resources
You must show around €1,000-1,100 per month of study — roughly €13,000 for a year — as a blocked account, scholarship letter or a parental guarantee with bank statements.

Apply for the temporary authorisation to stay
Send the student application to the Immigration Directorate before travelling. Decisions typically take 4-8 weeks, so file as soon as you have the enrolment letter.

Get the type D visa in India
With the authorisation, book the VFS appointment for the Luxembourg long-stay visa (€99 plus service fees) in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru or Kolkata. Allow 2-4 weeks.

Register and get your student residence permit
Declare arrival at the commune within 3 working days, complete the medical check, then file the residence permit for student (€80). It is issued for one year and renewed each academic year.
